Welcome to Atma Prema Wellness – and thank you for visiting.
I’m passionate about supporting and inspiring you on your yoga journey, helping you care for yourself with greater awareness, while sharing all I’ve learned through my deep connection to Iyengar Yoga.
What is Atma Prema?
The name was inspired by a moment in 2014, during a course in India with Geeta Iyengar, where I first encountered the word Atman. It struck a deep chord – the idea of the true self, the Atman, not as we often define “self” in today’s culture, but as the essential self that lies at the heart of everything.
Atma Prema means “self-love” in Sanskrit – a love that arises from a deeper connection, both to ourselves and to others, that is unconditional and expansive. It reflects the core belief that caring for yourself is not selfish, but essential.
My classes
I teach Iyengar Yoga across Essex, welcoming students of all ages and levels. My aim is to instil confidence, clarity, and a solid understanding of the Iyengar method to help you integrate yoga into your daily life.
A little about me
Before yoga became central in my life, I was a professional dancer and teacher. I discovered Iyengar Yoga in 1998, drawn initially to its physical precision. The practice helped me avoid injuries and stay strong and flexible while performing around the world – from the West End and English National Opera to film, TV, and commercial dance. After 14 years on stage, my body was beginning to feel the impact, and yoga became my sanctuary – a place for healing, rehabilitation, and real transformation. That’s when my deeper journey truly began.
Later, transitioning into fast-paced office life brought new challenges: long hours, stress, and a sedentary lifestyle. Through this shift, I came to value yoga not only for its physical benefits but also for its mental and emotional support. Back in my hometown of Chelmsford, I now balance my 9-to-5 career with my passion for sharing yoga.
Iyengar Yoga – commitment and training
I qualified as a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2016. I remain committed to preserving the integrity and high standards set by B.K.S. Iyengar, which is why I teach solely within the Iyengar discipline.
My learning is ongoing. I continue to study regularly – attending classes and workshops in the UK, returning to Pune, India when possible, and maintaining a daily personal practice. I also integrate the philosophical roots of yoga into my teaching, drawing inspiration from texts like the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
Events and holistic wellbeing
Alongside my London-based work, I’ve organised retreats, wellness days, corporate events, and Iyengar workshops. These bring together expert holistic practitioners and support people in creating more balanced, joyful lives – from the inside out.
Home life
When I’m not on the mat, I love quiet days at home with my cat and my little city garden. I’m learning to grow my own vegetables for the first time and enjoy exploring aromatherapy and Ayurvedic traditions as part of my ongoing journey in self-care and natural living.
